First Lady Completes Year-Long Partnership with Tennessee Schools

First Lady Crissy Haslam makes final visits to partnership schools to promote improving literacy rates

NASHVILLE – Tennessee First Lady Crissy Haslam completed a two week-long statewide reading tour yesterday with final school year-end visits to two of her 10 partnership schools.

Haslam’s final year-end visits to schools during the last two weeks included meetings with school administrators, recapping what was learned during the partnership and emphasizing the importance of literacy and parental involvement.

First Lady Promotes Imagination Library in Madison, Crockett Counties

NASHVILLE – Tennessee First Lady Crissy Haslam attended receptions in Madison and Crockett counties yesterday to promote the counties’ Imagination Library affiliate offices. 

Families can enroll their children ages 0-5 in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and receive one high-quality, age-appropriate book delivered to their home each month.

Crissy Haslam Hosts “First Ladies for Healthy Babies” Event

NASHVILLE – Tennessee First Lady Crissy Haslam hosted members of the faith-based community at the Tennessee Residence today for a Nashville meeting of the “First Ladies for Healthy Babies” initiative.

More than 140 women, including close to 70 wives of pastors known as first ladies of the church, attended the luncheon to learn more about the importance of healthy brain development for children and promoting early education in their local neighborhoods in Nashville.

MEMPHIS- Governor and First Lady Haslam visited Benjamin Hooks Library today to announce and celebrate the results of an evaluation on the effectiveness of the Shelby County Books from Birth program. The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation partners with the Imagination Library to promote school readiness and a love of learning by offering free, age-appropriate books mailed directly to a child’s home once a month, from birth until age five.

Cabinet to create comprehensive strategy focused on Tennessee children’s well-being

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam today announced the governor will issue an executive order refocusing and restructuring the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet, which they will co-chair.

This makes the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet the only one in the country co-chaired by both a governor and the spouse, according to the National Forum for Youth Investment, and the group through collaboration and cooperation will create a comprehensive strategy focused on issues such as children’s physical and mental health, education, safety and overall well-being.

First Lady Crissy Haslam reads to 330 students at Overbrook School in Nashville

NASHVILLE—First Lady Crissy Haslam visited Overbrook School in Nashville today to celebrate and promote a love of reading among students as part of the “Readers are Leaders” program. Overbrook School started the program in 1989, which includes a school-wide assembly where local celebrity guests read their favorite books to students.
